When The Game Is Over . . .
What stories/experiences do we hope to share with friends and family who could not attend the game? How the team played? The score? How bad (or good) the referee was? How our child performed? The sportsmanship displayed by the players? Coach? The behavior and words used by the parents?
When The Game Is Over . . .
How should we feel about the game? Encouraged by our child’s and his/her team’s effort? Embarrassed by things said to referees or opposing team fans? Proud to wear the Barca Academy Columbus jersey!
When The Game Is Over . . .
It is likely we will not remember a bad throw-in, a missed offsides call, or even the score of the game. What we will remember is how we felt after the game. In the poem The Dash (by Linda Ellis) the author’s message is to focus on the events that take place between the “dates.” That is, how does a person wish to be remembered for their impact on those around them.
When The Game Is Over . . .
Have confidence that you contributed to a positive environment for all players, referees, coaches and spectators. Our collective goal is to keep kids playing, enjoying the game and excited to return to the next practice or game. In 2015 Mohammed Qahtani won the Toastmaster World Championship with his delivery titled, The Power of Words. Together we can influence others to use positive, encouraging words and actions to support our child’s team during the soccer game.
When The Game Is Over . . .
The opponent, referee and spectators should remember each Barça team, its players, coaches and parents for their positive demeanor. They should respect our style of play and our approach to teaching the game of soccer with youth players.
Barça Academy Columbus encourages players, coaches and parents to accept the responsibility to use positive words, demonstrate kindness, and embrace the Barça Academy Values of Humility, Effort, Ambition, Respect, and Teamwork (H.E.A.R.T). Together we will lead the way in promoting good sportsmanship on and off the field!
Thank you for your continued support of the players and Academy.
Good Luck to all teams this weekend!
